“Gentlemen, can not fight in here! This is the war room ”
Dr. Strangelove or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb is an extraordinary political satire of ideological turmoil during the Cold War. Directed by Stanley Kubrick and released in 1964, the film has great script (almost every speech has a double meaning) and the most grotesque characters combined to play all the time, with the fear of global annihilation.
Kubrick and screenwriter Terry Southern withdrew from the plot of a thriller made by a British Military Aeronautics (Peter Geoge’s work was published as Two Hours to Doom in the United Kingdom and Red Alert, USA) and inserted elements to make it in a tale of magical realism.
The action takes place in three different points: the war room, the headquarters of the plane piloted by Texan Major TJ “King” Kong, which contains the pump H. The trigger of the story takes place with increasing agony of General Jack Ripper (in reference to Jack the Ripper) to cease the interference of the Soviets’ precious bodily fluids of America. ” His response to aggression is triggering nuclear weapons against the Communists.
Your helper English, Captain Lionel Mandrake (Peter Sallis) is desperately trying to find the code that prevents the bombing that would start the third world war. Given the paradox, the most important man in the world, U.S. President Merkin Muffley (Peter Sellers again) meets at the Pentagon war room and uses the famous red phone (even if the film is in black and white) ask Soviet Premier U.S. planes drop.
The drunken chief warns of communist superpower to a colleague that his country has a mechanism, the Apocalyptic Machine, which automatically returns the nuclear attack. Afraid, Muffley means that your direct advisor, Dr. Strangelove, confirm the existence of such a machine.
Also under the interpretation of Peter Sellers, Dr. Strangelove is a Nazi scientist who, with the end of the Third Reich, became advisor to the president. Owner of a scientific-technical vocabulary and a nervous tic, Dr. Strangelove’s arm involuntarily contract and release a thunderous greeting “Zieg Hail” always refers to the president.
The unsuccessful attack of Jack the Ripper, 30 of the 34 aircraft returning to base. Another three were killed, but one of them can throw the hydrogen bomb on enemy soil. The result is riding cowboys nuclear bombs and an evacuation plan that includes surreal shelters in caves which would include a population of ten times more women than men.
Dr. Strangelove earned first Oscar nomination for Kubrick. The film also received mention as the best that year, by reference to Petter Sellers triple role and adapted screenplay.
